Rimming, analingus and tossing a salad are all words that mean providing oral sex on another person’s anal opening. It’s also known as a booty job, skimming, or even swabbing the poop deck. 

Why are there so many different ways to say it? Because it’s what everyone is talking about and doing these days! 

Today, as part of Anal August we’re going to talk about rimming, how to do it well and how to stay safe doing it. 

Rimming is not just an activity for “gay” people, this is a common misconception since it’s focused on the anus. Everyone with an anus can enjoy it! 

Rimming is a common form of foreplay that leads up to anal penetration since it relaxes the anal opening. However, it is great by itself or in conjunction with any other sexy acts you want to do.

Since the anal opening has a ton of nerve endings this is a potential hot spot for pleasure for people of all genders. 

You can suck, lick, kiss or any other fun activity with your mouth on a clean anal opening to bring pleasure to your partner and to yourself. 

Think of it as just another way of tongue kissing a part of your partner’s body. Treat it with passion and curiosity.

Start off slow and sexy, remember that the foreplay is the warmup before the big game! 

Try using slow, long licks with your tongue flat on your partner’s anus. Then, if you’re both ready, switch it up and try both stiffening your tongue and relaxing it at times. You can even use the tip of your tongue to penetrate the anus slightly. Listen to your partner and what they find enjoyable!

Remember that the heat of your breath anywhere on the body can be a real turn on, so use it to your advantage! Alternate light kissing, licking and breathing on the areas that turn your partner on the most. 

***Pro-Tip*** Keep your hands busy while your down there! Use your hands and fingers to play with their other sexy zones while you’re going to town.

Don’t forget that there is a huge variety of positions you can do with this so be creative! 

Also, using lube is always a good idea, especially if anal is on the menu. Consider using a lube specifically for rimming or a flavoured one to enhance the giver’s experience.

First of all, talk to your partner before you go shoving your tongue where the sun doesn’t shine. While some people enjoy surprises, this is one you should prepare for. 

No, you don’t need to do an enema for this one. Since it’s mostly external play you’ll be safe with a quick wash. However, if it makes you feel safer and sexier, go for it! We’re all for cleanliness. 

If it makes you feel better about yourself, consider doing some landscaping first. Get rid of unwanted hairs that make you feel more self-conscious. 

If you have had any sort of digestive distress recently such as excessive gas, diarrhea, have haemorrhoids or any cold sores, you should probably save the butt play for another day. 

While it is generally a safe activity there are a few risks involved that can be easily avoided. The likelihood of spreading or contracting an STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) from rimming is low, it can still happen. 

There are also a few other potential infections you should know about. Since the anus is still attached to the digestive system spreading E. coli, Shigella, or Giardia is possible. 

To avoid the risk of all of these buzzkills, give your anus a quick clean before engaging in play. Also, using a barrier method to protect yourself and your partner is highly encouraged.

Make sure all of your stomach and bowel movements have been normal recently, otherwise your partner may get a less-than-tasty surprise.  

For this activity you can use a dental dam which is simply a piece of latex that creates a barrier between you and the butthole that won’t take away from the pleasure. 

If you don’t have a dental dam hanging around, you can also use a piece of plastic wrap. You’ll find it hugs any part of the body part nice and tight. 

There are also tongue condoms that can be worn over the tongue while you’re giving oral sex.
