In my experience, Iβm certainly not defined by being somebodyβs wife! In the past Iβve had people introduce themselves and say:

Iβll tell you straight, I was Juanita long before I was anybodyβs wife. Iβm not sure what the currency is that people think they have because they are somebodyβs wife or if itβs a small town thing or itβs a social-economic status or community standing.
A little background on this woman, she has a degree in some sort of science, sheβs definitely her own well-pronounced person, and yet she still introduces herself as somebodyβs wife.
